Freelance After Effects Pro Needed

Monday, February 23, 2009 1:39 pm

If you'd got the After Effects and/or 3D chops, want to do some sporatic freelance work, can take direction and run with it, and willing to work within realistic time constraints (whew!) I wanna talk to you!

We're always in need of another talent to shoot projects off to from time to time.  These are mostly After Effects projects but on occasion we have 3D/Motion Graphics mixed projects.

If you're at this site you've got a feel for the style we produce. If you think you'd like to get in the loop just send me a link to your site/reel/work. Holler at me through the contact us link above.

Woah! An Easter Egg

In one of my own projects?!

We have the priviledge of working with the audio gods at Lucky Dog Audio on several of our projects (Hi Scott!).

I recently had to revise the Cox "Soccer Mom" spot and was listening to the audio on a decent pair of headphones when I noticed in the sound effects ..... wait for it ....... THE WILHELM SCREAM!

More info at the link but basically this is a famous scream sound effect that was recorded in 1951 and has been in a ton of movies you've seen ... Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Lord of the Rings, and countless more.

I got a good laugh when I heard the effect in this spot. I don't know how I missed it before. Thanks Scott!

Blowin' Dust off the 360

Tuesday, October 9, 2007 10:45 pm

I've been able to play the Xbox 360 a bit more these days and its been great. I picked up Forza 2 and a Logitech steering wheel (because, you know, all serious online racers use a wheel).

Forza 2 is probably the best 360 driving game ever. It's been a blast. If you've got an Xbox Live account, shoot me a friend request ... I'm IString TheoryI (those are captial I's on the ends)

My aunt has recently been telling me about new developer tools released in Second Life that look really interesting. I haven't had the opportunity to give Second Life a shot but I've been dying to give it a try. I fear that once I do it will turn into a thing like my current WOW addiction I just can't shake.

I was able to have both financial and social success in a similar MMO world called There (www.there.com) and my aunt feels the same successes could be had in Second Life.

Curse you video games ... Freakin time sinks.

Protein Folding - Join the DDK Team!

Thursday, March 29, 2007 9:51 am

protein_folding.jpg

While you're at work, while you sleep, even while you're reading these words your computer is wasting precious computing power. Why not put it to work? Why not put it to work for science!?

Now the largest distributive computing project on the planet, the Folding@Home initiative uses the power of millions of computers around the globe, connected to the Internet, to form the worlds largest and fastest "supercomputer".

The effort is to study the building blocks of all living organisms - proteins. To accomplish biological tasks, proteins must fold themselves to start work. Often proteins will "misfold" and severe results ensue. Things like cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's Disease, and hundreds more.

The study is to better understand how proteins fold and their results by simulating the folding processes in a virtual space - on your computer. This process is computationally intense - thus the perfect candidate for a distributive computing project.

Join the DDK computing team and help the cause! It's a simple download. You have your choice of either a screen saver, a small application that runs silently in the background, or a console version for you gearheads out there. Windows, Linux, Mac, even a PS3 version! If you have a multi-processor or dual core computer you might give the SMP version a go.

Once installed be sure to join the DDK team - number 54355

Get it here! http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html

Bullrun Update

Wednesday, March 21, 2007 10:16 am

bullrun_240sx.jpg

So the latest episode of Bullrun was fairly interesting.

Looks like we have an American muscle alliance (woo ... big surprise) and an pseudo alliance between the F-150, Mustang, and Trans-am teams.

Team lambo with their "clutch issues" rolled across the start line and loaded up the Murci on a flatbed. Apparently the rules only state that the car has to cross the start and finish line under its own power. In between its fair game. All I know is I'd be waving the BS flag high and proud if I was in the race. Congrats to team lambo for putting the biggest & brightest target on thier backs.

Uh oh! New show alert!!!

So if a bunch of producers were sitting around and posed the question, "What would be the perfect show for Steve Jones" this would be their answer. Bullrun on Spike TV.

Badass cars - "Oooh"

Racing - "Ahhh"

Reality TV - "Nice!"

Driving Challenges - "Snap!"

I <3 Spore

Tuesday, February 13, 2007 11:21 pm

Spore is the newest game coming from game genius Will Wright. Don't know who Will Wright is? Well, he made these obscure little games like Sim City, The Sims, and Civilization. ( See his history here )

spore.jpg

Spore looks to be one of those games you get so soaked up in that each time you fire it up, before you know it, its 5am and you don't know whats happened.

I can't really do it justice with my words so go check out this 35 minute presentation on Spore. Coming in Fall 2007 (hopefully) this could dethrone World of Warcraft as my timesink of choice.

P2R Endurance Race

Saturday, February 10, 2007 10:20 pm

Pole Position held its first 1.5 hour endurance race this weekend. 10 teams of 3 plus they flew in the World Champ Kart team from Arizona to show us how things were done. The race is basically who can accumulate the most laps over a 1.5 hour time limit.
racep2r_enduro.jpg

We're the Orange Team ... 4th place. Not to shabby I guess considering the Light Blue Team is the world champ team. We were just shy of 173 laps.

Here's several more pics from the event.
